Pedro and Erica

One of many friendships yet to be built- that's Erica, next to Pedro, in the middle of that group of boys. Her family supports Siempre and visits often enough to know each of the kids and make friends. Making new friends is one of the best parts of our Memorial Day Weekend Building trips. Whether it's with someone we're working along side of for the day or it's our kids hanging out with the kids of Siempre- they're rich moments and remembered for a lifetime. Erica and Pedro's backgrounds are different as night and day- you'd never know it by the smiles on their faces- they only see friendship, something all of us can never get too much of. I hope you're planning on being with us Memorial Day Weekend. Reservations are starting to approach 100. There's room for your kids. We'll find work for them to do... but more importantly they'll find new friends... among the families working together as well as among the kids of Siempre. Together, we'll build an addition and memories that will change lives and last a life time.

Vanessa at the store for ice cream
It's pretty easy to fall in love with kids. And the kids of Siempre are no exception. Yesterday Barbara, her sister Maria and daughter Amanda, visiting from up north, along with Debi, took the kids for ice creams at the local market. It was Maria's first visit and she quickly found her way into the hearts of each our kids. That's Vanessa- with fudgesicle all over her face -enjoying the first summer like days at Siempre and the fruits of special visitors. I had been talking with Pastor Israel, Barbara and Debi when Barbara's sister said she was taking the kids for ice cream- in seconds, Israel and I found ourselves standing alone as Debi and Barbara headed out like big kids to join the fun. Wednesday afternoons bring out the best in each of us and if you've ever got the chance you really should consider jumping into my truck and joining us. There might even be ice cream!
Mario
They're practical reasons... it's just that each of them have names. That's Mario in the picture. He's only been with us a few weeks and he still acts like each day is summer camp. He and his brothers, rescued from heartbreak and poverty and into the safety and hope of Siempre, are four of the nicest kids you could ever hope to meet. They smile quickly, play with with joy and if you'll let them, like many of the children of Siempre, will sit in your lap or have you hold them all day long. They've been rescued- and they know it -it shows each time little Diego runs and puts his arms out to be lifted up, or just stands alongside you in silence. Each of them will need a home for the next 15 - 20 years. Siempre, and the joy we share on any given visit, is not about short term commitment. The sweet faces you see in these photos, the wonderful children of Siempre Para Los Ninos, have been left with us forever. Legal guardianship transferred and birth certificates signed over... failure is not an option... and so we build, to be prepared for all our children will need in the future and to make room for the children who are yet to be left at our doorstep.
Ricardo and Maria - share a popsicle
Ricardo and Daniel, pictured at the top of the page, are quickly growing a brother like bond. They're only months apart in age, though Daniel's the older, he's also the smaller of the two. They've only known each other for weeks: Ricardo's been with us since he was a baby, we're all he knows. Daniel is Mario's youngest brother and memories he may carry from his life before Siempre will soon be woven together with these first days of bonding with Ricardo and all the other children he now shares his life with. They'll both need someone to teach them to kick a soccer ball, take them fishing for the first time and eventually even how to drive. This is a huge task and the kids of Siempre deserve our best. Without us, left to the streets of TJ, fighting to find their way out of poverty, they'll be lucky to survive... much less ever find success. At Siempre, because of your support, they'll discover a hope and a future. I can't imagine a better investment, outside of that which we use to raise our own children, then the loving, lifetime support of Siempre Para Los Ninos.

Three weeks from today I'll email out an update on how our weekend went. There'll be photos of workers, a new building, kids at the fiesta... the weekend and the opportunity will be behind us. If you still don't have plans for your Memorial Day Weekend- or if their sketchy at best -join us. We have a plan that will change the way you look at life, how you consider the poverty just hours from our doorstep and will open your heart to The Wonders of God - a life changing miracle is just ahead of us and you're invited. You can be a friend to the orphaned and abandoned... and you don't have to fly 22 hours to Kenya or get any shots. It's going to be an incredible weekend and I don't want you to miss it - you're needed... and that's a good thing... now, more than ever.

siempre,
