Our New Building

Thanks so much! Our Memorial Day Weekend was an incredible success. And though we didn't complete Siempre's newest addition- we came pretty darn close, had a fantastic time working side by side with our family at Siempre and came home with sore muscles, sunburn and no major injuries... one close call with a nail gun shot in the fore arm- glad you're ok Geoff! But other then that- it was all good and more importantly, next Wednesday we'll hold our first medical clinic in the new building. Why not watch the short video I put together Wednesday afternoon. Two More Kids! Our work over the weekend drew a crowd. The fiesta Sunday evening brought people in from miles around to share in Mexico's best fish fry, prepared by Jean and her hard working food team who graciously served people for at least an hour. So much activity in so welcome a manner brings an incredible amount of positive attention to Siempre. This is a good thing. Better to be a light on a hill then to be silently hidden away where no one can find us. People who are desperate need to know where to go when everything falls apart and they need help. Memorial Day Weekend, over 100 of us extended our arms to the community in love and it caught the eye of at least one mom in need.

Because of you, a mother, a prostitute, who could no longer care for her very young children, decided to trust them to Siempre this week. After sharing her heart and need with Alejandro and Aracelys, they spoke with me about it Wednesday and the kids are set to join our family this week. It's a good thing that mom's are asked to seriously consider the decision to sign over the birth certificate and all legal claim to their children- even in poverty or prostitution- letting go of one's children is a nightmare scenario. And when a prostitute leaves a child with Siempre she can visit them- but can never take one out for the day- the risk of harm in the flesh trade is too great to the child. Please keep this mom, these kids and our Siempre family in your prayers as they begin their new transition. Because of you, we continue to keep our doors open to kids living in crisis.
Pastor Israel - Working on His Home
Our biggest task yet... and it kind of overwhelmed us. A team of men headed out early Monday morning to make sure all the rafters were up on the second floor, Pastor Israel's new home, before we left. Monday evening, Israel called Pastor Ken to say he and some of the men from his church had started sheeting the roof. Wednesday, Ken took the day and went down early to wrap up the plumbing while Israel and a couple of his men worked on putting up the last of the sheeting- today, Thursday, they plan on finishing the roof. Once that's done, work inside, like hanging drywall, cabinets, flooring and the many other tasks that go into building a home can be completed.

No time for coffee! Israel's wife, Vanessa, told us Wednesday afternoon that she had fed several of the men helping Israel breakfast that morning- they all wanted a second cup of coffee, to which she replied, "No time. Back to work!" Smiling, she said that Israel was getting no vacation or days off until their new house is ready for move in... That said, if you'd like to take a day and go hang some drywall, build a closet, lay some tile, or just help out- what a gift it would be to the entire family. It's going to be a beautiful new home with million dollar views. A friend walked through it with me yesterday and asked: "Are you going to sell it?" I quickly told him "No." Our prayer is that Israel, Vanessa and their family find happiness, peace, joy and blessings in it for years to come. Please keep them in your prayers.
Donna Paula
One in a million- little Donna Paula's smile definitely qualifies. I frequently tell people how when we first started work on Siempre we assumed it would be filled with sad, lonely children who required years of work and attention to survive their problems. Little did we realize that God would gift us with wonderful kids, each uniquely terrific, that would bless us beyond measure. Just while writing, I spoke with a friend who's family joined us last weekend for their first visit to Siempre, she said: "We've been changed forever! It's all we talk about now. We can't wait to go back." Siempre, and the work happening there, speaks to a special place in our hearts. The smile on a child like Donna Paula, a child left alone at our doorstep, is reward enough for whatever time, effort or work we put into the task. What we do for the kids of Siempre, we do for The Lord.

One in a million - I imagine someday, at our current rate of growth, Siempre will run a million dollar budget. The very prospect rattles me to the core. But the prospect of children living and dying in poverty and neglect is so much more difficult to live with. We were able to meet the budget over Memorial Day because of great leadership and participation in our rummage sale, golf tournament, auction, special offerings and right at the end- the very generous gift of $5,000- by dear friends of Siempre. Thanks so much to each of you that worked so hard, gave so much and care so deeply. God is great and He's given us this great work to share together. I hope you'll share the story with your friends and family. Everyone wants to do something great with their lives and Siempre Para Los Ninos definitely qualifies as one spectacular outlet for changing lives.

One in a million. What a great campaign it would make- if just one million people gave $1- each. It's the kind of stuff I think of when I'm trying to figure out how to meet our monthly budget. A new building and new children mean more money on a monthly basis. Many of our best supporters- many of you- gave generously to see that Memorial Day Weekend was a success- we need new support to guarantee our monthly support. If you've been considering taking on Siempre as part of your monthly giving- there has never a better time. If you're one of the many that help keep our doors open each month- you're changing lives, thanks so much. And if you're ready to join me and those who've decided to commit to the long term success and growth of Siempre Para Los Ninos and her children, you're needed, now, more than ever. It's an exciting time to get on board.

siempre,

Pastor Eric and Fabian on a Cold Afternoon
