In front of the new building... or at least where it will be after Memorial Day Weekend. The Golf Tournament was AMAZING! Thanks so much for all of you that gave of your time and money to make it a tremendous success. The Auction and Tournament combined raised nearly $20,000- towards our new building. AND everyone had a fantastic time. Thanks so much!

Waiting to see Dr. Ricks
Dr. Ricks was ready and patients were waiting he set up office in the church Wednesday afternoon. First order of business was to check out each of our 5 new children. Since George speaks Spanish, he's able to make more headway in getting to know the kids in just a few minutes then I make in a few weeks. He had them smiling as they waited in turn to be seen. Thankfully, He said they all seemed healthy and adjusting well, or as well as one could expect. Our worker in charge of the boys brought one of our new little guys, plenty old enough to be talking up a storm, with the concern that he's pretty quiet. George said that it was probably due to the transition period and all the emotional turmoil that goes with it. Suddenly, I found myself worried if he could talk at all, so I set him up and made him count to ten- about as high as I can go in Spanish - and sang a song or two with him in Espanol. He's got the words... just must not feel like using them yet.

The community waits until any of Siempre's kids have been seen and then Dr. Ricks sees each of them after the kids are out of the building. He said that one of the young women, brought in by concerned family, was having lapses in memory. Our son has had numerous concussions from skate and snow boarding and I remembered the fear in my gut, sitting with him in an emergency room as he asked me 93 times, I counted, in less then an hour, "Dad, what are we doing here? What happened?" The concern on the faces of this family was evident and the peace they received from the visit, showed equally on their faces as they approached me outside to say "Thanks" and "God bless you." The girls' situation is not resolved, however, they're building a relationship with a doctor they now trust and is able to evaluate the situation and give them the counsel they need. Without Siempre, they would have worried until Lord only knows what might have happened. Please keep this young woman in your prayers. It's always a blessing when Dr. Ricks comes to Siempre. If you're in the medical profession- why not consider giving one Wednesday a month- Dr. Ricks comes on the first Wednesday of each month - to serving the wonderful children of Siempre and the surrounding community.
Carla- laboring over her homework
Aida was gracious enough to take our photos for this week. But Cynthia still managed to get involved. I felt sorry for Carla who was laboring away at her geography homework, upstairs, on one of our computers while online. When I asked her how it was going, she put her head in hands and shaking it with frustration recognized by HS students around the world, rolling her eyes; I took stock of the blessings that surrounded her. The upstairs room has a library, a 5 computer study lab that connects to the Internet, study areas and a million dollar view. Carla is a straight A student, getting ready to celebrate her 15th birthday this summer- a HUGE deal in Mexico. Siempre is planning a party and celebration for over 150 guests- all for a girl that was left with her siblings- to be raised by strangers... who are now family. The picture may be one of frustration... but it's the kind of frustration we dream about for each of Siempre's kids. Carla's making the most of her opportunity and we're extremely proud of her.
A Typical Afternoon at Siempre
When you support Siempre you're lifting up children that otherwise would be not just left out, but would be abused and exploited by poverty. Our monthly budget requires just 100 people giving $100-, without fail, every month. Amazing what can be done with so little. The new building will be paid for by the additional fund raising and generous gifts of supporters of Siempre Para Los Ninos. People who've seen what's been accomplished in the lives of these children and believe in what is yet to come. Our day to day needs- salaries, food, tuition, clothing, utilities, etc... all the expenses that every household incurs, except that this household has over 20 children and a half dozen adults, are met with your monthly giving. To those of you that give through automatic debit or through the www site, thanks so much for making us part of your giving plan. To those who send a check each month, regardless the amount, the doors wouldn't stay open without you. Someday, and sooner as opposed to later, our staff will grow- our needs will grow... one doesn't have to be a prophet... just take the time to travel in and around Tijuana. Children are begging to be rescued. What we do today will literally be the salvation of a generation of leaders for tomorrow. Many of you will never meet each of our kids... but if you did, you'd love them and they'd take the time to say this: "Thank you."

Blue eyes and almost blond hair make one of our newest children stand out from the others. They're not common among children in TJ. He'll never meet or know his father... even if his mom knows who his father was. He's being embraced and loved for who he is and all we believe God has in store for him. There's food every day, a warm place to sleep, a loving family, able and compassionate leaders, a pastor on the grounds, a church right out the door and an army of gringos that visit weekly and a growing number of friends and supporters in the community who want to see him discover his purpose and pursue his dreams. To find success in his adult life, he'll need each one of us as he faces the challenges that every child must tackle while growing up. Siempre is part of the solution to poverty in Mexico today. I hope you'll consider becoming one of the one hundred that make it happen each month.

Memorial Day Weekend is just weeks away. Over 80 workers are registered. We have room for 150 and we can use every one of them to get the job done. I hope you'll consider joining us and experience the miracle. Why watch people build or rebuild houses on TV when you can share personally in one of the greatest miracles that takes place anywhere on the planet as we putt up a 2 story, almost 3,000 sq ft building in just two days! There's a job for every member of the family. If you've got questions- don't hesitate to call- email- or just yell real loud... we want you to share the wonder of it all. Thanks again to every person who worked so hard and gave so much to lead a successful golf tournament. It was so much fun!

Special treat for Memorial Day Weekend- Saturday evening we'll show the full version of "Glueboys" the documentary of life on the streets for children in Kitale, Kenya and the battle with glue addiction. It was made by Phi Hamer, who's been at each of our Memorial Day trips for years and made our videos. The showing will be after dinner for all who can stay awake after a long days work. The DVD will also be available for you to purchase for just $10- so you can take a copy home to share with your family. God's opened so many doors for us and this is one that we've been blessed and honored to share in. I hope you'll take the time to check it out.
