Dear john,
People Everywhere!

What a Crowd! Pulling up to Siempre on Wednesday we actually had to negotiate for a parking spot. Twenty kids from a church youth group are spending several days working with the kids. The church is still running programs for kids in the community. And finally, it was the first Wednesday of the month, so Dr. Ricks was with us and he and his sister Linda ran a very successful medical clinic. Add our group into the mix and the place was CROWDED with kids going absolutely nuts. What a great day.

Valaria - Looking Out
A safe place. Sanctuary. That's little Valaria, Pastor Israel and Vanessa's youngest child, looking out at the crowds of kids. When schools in session, she has her mom and most of the grounds to herself. With school out, Siempre becomes a magnet for every child in the community. Every child received at least 1 Christmas present from us. Every member of the community is invited to the medical clinics. Several times a week many community members step on to our campus to go to church. Valaria, as well as every child at Siempre, has learned how to find the occasional quiet moment in the crowd.

It's amazing how the kids open their arms and welcome us. When they run and play and things get a little wild, instead of looking for a quiet spot, I praise God. Little children in TJ sell chicklets and juggle at the border - begging for change. Little boys and girls are bought and sold in the brisk sex trade catering to men from the U.S. Tens of thousands of children head up households in the little hills surrounding TJ. Many left behind by parents seeking a better life for their families across the border. The children at Siempre have warm beds, loving care givers, hot meals, school and vacation, friends who visit from around the world, security and the promise of always - siempre - we believe in them. Valaria's face, behind the glass door at the church, reminds me of just how many children around the world are trapped in the vicious jaws of poverty with little hope in sight. Thanks so much for opening your hearts to these great kids.
Erique - Self Portrait
Erique's one of our first kids. He's hardly a kid anymore. He took every photo last Wednesday. He's been banned from the camera for the last year, when he decided to slam dunk the last one in a bout of peevishness that cost me a couple of hundred bucks. A new year deserved another opportunity and he did a great job.

Enrique was a gangly, goofy 12 year old when he came to live at Siempre 3 years ago. He's matured into a fine young man. That's not to say there haven't been rough spots. He's made it through each of them - whether it was the social adjustment as kids came and went or in his grades at school, he's thrived and now thinks about all the same things any other 15 year old would dream of: girlfriends, cars, jobs, college. He has the opportunity to dream big because people with big hearts have taken the time to give him extra care. People like Mickey, who helped us open Siempre and lived and worked with us through those first days and has never forgotten Enrique. People like Barbara and her husband Arturo, great friends of Siempre who have taken a special interest in encouraging Enrique to give his best and discover his full potential. The love and personal concern has given Enrique reason to hold his head high and to keep on trying when many other 15 year olds would be just getting ready for serious trouble. Way to go Enrique. Way to go team. You keep our doors open and more importantly you keep the doors to a bright funture open for Enriquefn
Our Group Shot
Every prayer whispered, every visit, every positive word carries the message of kids in need - and helps. 3 very specific things you can do to help us keep our promise to the kids of Siempre in 2007 are: 1. Support a child - it's easy and it's not nearly as expensive as raising one! Find out how through our www site. 2. Join us Memorial Day Weekend, 2007, as we build our biggest and final building, completing our site. 3. Forward this email to 5 friends. People want to do great things with their lives and finances. Rescuing children from poverty is a cause worth risking the rejection of our friends over. I've discovered that EVERYONE wants to spend their lives and time on something great - most people just don't know how. This little email can help. Working together, we have the opportunity to participate in a year of tremendous healing for children without hope.

Thanks so much to each of you that have given and worked to keep the doors of Siempre open. Your heart for the hurting is changing lives and I'm so proud to work together with you. When we first visited the little community Siempre's in we were just looking for a village without a church - somewhere God could use us to build a foundation. Little did we know all He had in store. We were horribly ignorant to how great the need was so close to home. I'm excited about 2007. We'll double our staff so we can double the number of children we give shelter to in the days to come. Tonight it's cold and windy- and a child is fighting to find a place to safely sleep - tomorrow, they may be safe and warm in the arms of Siempre Para Los Ninos. That's my prayer. Join me!

siempre,
