Siempre Sisters. That's Karla, in
brown, hugging Aida. When Karla first came to
Siempre her little sister Brenda couldn't sleep through
the night. She was frightened and trying to adjust
to the new situation- must be a horrible time of
transition for each of our kids. Karla, spent her first
year at Siempre with Brenda sharing her little bunk
bed- not the other bed- but sleeping in her bed. It
was the only way Brenda could make it through the
night. Brenda's doing great today and I'm sure
Karla's sleeping much better.
Next summer Karla
turns 15, a big event in Mexico for a young
woman.
For months, our workers have been working with
Karla to plan her Quincenera, the traditional
ceremony/party that's celebrated. Yesterday, Karla
asked our daughter Julia to play an important role in
the ceremony that will tie the two of them together
for life. I couldn't help but think of how many little
girls across Mexico, living in poverty, dream of their
15th birthday and never get to celebrate with a big
party. It was also easy to imagine workers in a
children's home that considered a time honored
cultural event frivolous for a child not living with her
family- again I praised God for our leaders who knew
the need and not only refused to overlook it, but
have jumped in with both feet. I couldn't help but
think of all our little girls who already look up to Karla
who'll now see that someday there'll be a big party
for them when they turn 15. Hope. Tomorrow.
Important concepts, easy to lose a firm grasp of
when one's been abandoned. Siempre's in the
business of giving our kids not just life, but life to the
full. Thanks so much for helping us love Karla,
Brenda and all the kids as they grow up at Siempre.

Good Things are Always Happening around
Siempre. Pastor Israel is starting a before
school breakfast program for kids in the community.
A good friend made a gift of $1,200- to get it up and
running this semester. Thanks Tony! Israel thinks
he'll start the program with over 30 kids. Siempre's
had such a positive impact on the community at
large as it works in unison with the church. Friends
of Pastor Israel's visited Siempre and decided they
needed a new/additional washer and dryer and sent
a gift of $1,200-. What a huge blessing this will be
as our current industrial strenght appliances are
overloaded, running virtually non-stop to keep up
with the kids dirty clothes. On the subject of
clothes, a good friend stopped in at Old Navy and
bought new jeans and warm shirts enough for all the
boys through the rest of the school year. Thanks
Nancy! Aracelys, looking through the clothes said
they'd be perfect, because the boys like to "look
cool." Don't know what the word for cool is in
Spanish. Was glad Ralph was there to translate for
me.
I could go on and on. From paper
goods to tortillas, each week so many of you do so
many good things to keep Siempre up and running.
Thanks especially to those of you that keep Siempre
in your monthly budget. Without you, we couldn't
keep the doors open and we have so many more
good things to do. Our Memorial Day Building Trip
planning is in full swing. I spent most of my
afternoon at Siempre working through details with
Alejandro, Israel and Ralph. I hope you'll sign register
for the weekend today. You've got plenty of time to
save the money and we're going to need the
workers. The building's several thousand square feet
and it's going to take each of us to get the job
done. It's also going to cost more that $30,000- in
materials alone - we're building at $10- per sq ft this
year- our most exspensive building yet! Hope you'll
join us. We're also in the planning stages of starting
a "Safe Surrender" program at
Siempre. Modeled on the program at Fire Stations
and ER rooms here in California, we want to give
moms the opportunity to save their children when
tempted to throw them away. TJ doesn't offer a
Safe Surrender program and too
many unwanted babies are aborted or dumped in the
trash or open fields. Siempre can save them. Our
doors are open. Please pray for us as we extend
ourselves yet again to keep our promise of always for
the children.

Lord Willing, next month I'll be back in Kenya. After our successful medical clinics last October it's time to do our follow up work in the community's we visited. As of now, I'm traveling alone. With no one signing up for this trip, I considered canceling it, then God gave me an idea. In the early '90's I went to Russia with the Jesus Film and brought it for the first time into communities that had been closed to The Gospel. Contacted the Jesus Film and they now produce it in Maasai, Pokot and Swahili. Emailed some friends in Africa and I've already got over 200 waiting for me in the Narok region alone and a church that wants me to lead a couple days of meetings with it in one of Nairobi's and the worlds largest slums. If you'd like to join me, email me today. For my friends in Kenya who get this email, thanks for your love and support, look forward to seeing you soon. And to those of you that can't come, I'm busy raising $3,000- for the portable video projector, screen, generator, etc for showings in the bush. If you'd like to help- let me know. Children's needs are great around the world and I feel so blessed to take the promise of Siempre to the kids struggling to survive in rural Kenya. Keep us in your prayers. Know that we're praying for you.
siempre,
